IMPHAL: Prices of fuel in the Manipur valley have soared in black market after oil pumps closed shop for an indefinite period starting Saturday. A litre of petrol was sold for Rs 120 this morning in black market. However, the price of the fuel has touched Rs 130 a litre in the afternoon. If the pumps continue to shut for the next few more days, the prices of diesel and petrol may sky-rocket further in black market. The situation also gives a brisk business for black marketeers.
In protest against the bomb attack at M/S Elidas Fuel station at Moirang Thana Leikai in Bishnupur district on January 8, the Manipur Petroleum Dealers Fraternity (MPDF) has announced on Friday to shut fuel pumps indefinitely.

It is still not certain about the group or individual responsible for the attack.
On Friday, vehicles made beelines in fuel pumps for refilling.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Petroleum Dealers Fraternity has appealed to the Governor through a written petition to enhance security measures for the fuel pumps and dealers of the goods. The fraternity also told the Governor that they can no longer operate in this situation. The fraternity further told the Governor to take measures so that no such attacks occur again in future.
