Wailing Procession to be Held in Honour of Late BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte

UKHRUL: As a part of the ongoing Zomi National Mourning observed for the month of March 2026 and the mourning gathering being held at the residence of Late Vungzagin Valte, the Zomi Co-ordination Committee (ZCC) informed that a Wailing Procession will be held on Monday, March 16 at 7 pm in honour of the late leader. 

Late Vungzagin Valte, the sitting BJP MLA of 56-Thanlon Assembly Constituency, breathed his last on February 20, after succumbing to injuries sustained during the violent ethnic clashes in Manipur in May, 2023.

ZCC stated that the Wailing Procession will commence from Late Vungzagin Valte Inn, Dorcas Veng, and proceed along Tedim Road to Lamka Police Station, before continuing along Tipaimukh Road towards the CMC Morgue, Churachandpur.

It appealed to the public to attend the procession, cooperate with the organisers, and adhere to the guidance issued by the relevant civil society organisations, so that the observance may proceed in a dignified and orderly manner.

It further informed that on Sunday, March 15, as part of the ongoing observance, death knells will be rung 56 times at exactly 9 pm across localities, symbolically marking the 56-Thanlon Assembly Constituency represented by the late MLA.
