Gaan-Ngai 2025: A Grand Showcase of Rongmei Naga Heritage and Community Spirit in Delhi NCR

Ukhrul, Jan 15: According to a press release issued by the Rongmei Women Cultural Dance Troupe (RWCDT) Delhi NCR, Gaan-Ngai 2025 was a resounding success, bringing the vibrant traditions of the Rongmei Naga community to life in New Delhi on January 12. Held at the Nurses Residential Complex (Football Ground) in Sri Niwaspuri, the event took place from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM and attracted a diverse group of attendees from across Delhi NCR.

The press release highlighted that the festival, themed “Our Festival, Our Identity,” featured a dynamic range of cultural performances. The festivities kicked off with Huay Kauhmei, a traditional chant performed in a geometric pattern, setting the stage for the day’s activities. Among the notable performances were Kit Laam and Siandaih Laam, both of which captivated the audience with their intricate choreography. A cultural fashion show also took place, showcasing the community’s colorful and elaborate attire, while Dingrian Laam—a participatory song and dance segment—helped foster a sense of togetherness among the crowd.

According to the release, music played a key role in enriching the experience. Lankhuingam (Napmu) John, an Executive Member of the Rongmei Chamnac Phwam Delhi (RCPD), and Mr. WD. Thongongthui, Managing Director of United Builders India, performed a series of folk songs that resonated deeply with the audience. A stirring patriotic Rongmei song by Huineiguang Rwangmei, General Secretary of the Rongmei Phwam Delhi (RPD), was described as a particularly poignant moment in the evening.

The press release noted that the event was graced by several high-profile dignitaries, including Dr. Marim Joice Gonmei, Co-founder and Director of Faitheal Biotech, and Mrs. Regina Gangmei, Nursing Officer at Dr. RML Hospital and Secretary of Rongmei Nurses Delhi & NCR. Their presence, the release stated, added significant prestige to the occasion and underscored the importance of Gaan-Ngai in uniting people from various walks of life.

In addition, Angela Gangmei, Assistant Professor at Shyam Lal College (E), Delhi University, delivered an insightful address on the theme of the festival, further enriching the cultural dialogue. The evening also included a special entertainment segment, featuring Kala Chashmah performed by Regina Gangmei and Khangamlung Kamei, added a lively touch to the celebration. The event culminated in the grand Pazeihmei, a traditional song and dance, symbolising unity and the enduring spirit of the Rongmei community.

The press release also mentioned that the event was organised under the guidance of Gaisangliu Gonmei (Lulu), the Convener; Regina Gangmei, the Function Secretary; and Gaidunliu Phaomei, the Function Finance Secretary, with the full support of all RWCDT members.
