Give ST to Meetei, implement NRC; condemns 10 Kuki MLAs Separate Administration demand: WMC

Guwahati: The World Meetei Council (WMC), Assam State Unit in a press release on Tuesday released five key points pertaining to the ongoing conflicts between Meetei and Chin-Kuki people in Manipur.

The release issued by Hari Singha General Secretary WMC are given below.

  1. Government of India should consider three points agenda to resolve the conflict between Meetei and immigrant Chin-Kuki people:
    • Meetei needs constitutional protection as provided in ST provision.
    • Implement NRC in Manipur at the earliest.
    • Protect indigenous people against the atrocities meted out by the immigrants in Manipur.
  2. The leaders in meeting jointly condemned the following three points:
  3. Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga should not interfere in the internal affairs of Manipur.
  4. Stop playing politics of the present conflict in Manipur by the political parties.
  5. Request media houses not to portray victims as perpetrators.

WMC also informed in a press release that it organized all CSO meet at Guwahati on Sunday to discuss on the ongoing issues of Manipur where Meetei community is largely affected. The CSO leaders from various organizations of Assam, namely Ngangam Baldev, Yengkhom Upendra, Khemamayum Dilip, Usham Dipak, Irabati Devi, RK Ranjit, Karam Punshi, Gourav Sharma, Y. Dhan Singh, Lourembam Madan and Irungbam Hari were present in the meeting, it added.
