Ukhrul, October 21: The Global Naga Forum (GNF) has lauded the gesture of goodwill and mutual understanding shown by several civil society organizations from across communities in welcoming the historic visit of Thuingaleng Muivah, General Secretary of the NSCN (IM), to his native village Somdal after 52 years.
In a statement issued, GNF expressed deep appreciation to organizations such as Meitei Leepun, United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF), Zomi Re-Unification Organization (ZRO), and Kuki Tribal Union (KTU/NSCN) for extending solidarity during the occasion. It also acknowledged the Government of India and the Manipur State Government for their positive role in facilitating the long-awaited visit, describing it as a “meaningful step towards mutual respect and understanding among all communities.”

Recalling past events, GNF noted that in 2010, Th. Muivah’s proposed visit was met with opposition from state authorities and certain Meitei and Kuki organizations, which led to the tragic Mao Gate incident where two young Mao Naga students lost their lives in police firing. This year’s open show of support, the Forum stated, signifies a remarkable shift towards peace, dialogue, and reconciliation among communities.
Extending its warmest wishes to Th. Muivah, GNF wished him good health and a joyful homecoming, expressing hope that the visit would inspire deeper understanding, unity, and respect among all peoples of the region
