UT News Service | Imphal, Aug 15: The Governor of Manipur Najma Heptulla extended greetings to the people of Manipur as India celebrates its 74th Independence Day on Saturday.
“I extend my heartiest greetings and best wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Independence Day, 2020.
Every year since 1947, we the people of India have been celebrating 15th August as Independence Day remembering and paying homage to the sacrifices of the leaders and millions of their followers of the long freedom struggle towards the goal of attaining freedom.
During the last more than 70 years after independence, India has made great strides in all fields and is targetting to be in the comity of leading nations of the world. Though major progress has been made in most of the socio economic development areas all over the country, challenges still remain to be tackled.
The technological strides have been made to ensure that no citizen is left hungry or illiterate and progress is equitable.
Various measures have been taken on these fronts continuously. Every one today must take a pledge to work that these efforts bear fruit so that all are provided with the support they need for sustenance and become responsible citizens.
I sincerely urge all citizens to work together and bring emotional integrity and ensure that every part of the country is developed equally so that there is no sense of discrimination.
On this auspicious occasion of Independence Day, 2020, I, once again, extend my heartiest greetings and best wishes to all the people of Manipur”.
In New Delhi, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Rajghat and paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and proceeded to the Red Fort and remembered the lives and sacrifices Indians had made to achieve India’s Independence.
