Imphal: The National General Secretary of the Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M), Sitaraman Yechury, arrived in Imphal today for a 4-day visit. His visit aims to assess the impact of the ongoing violence in Manipur.
Briefing the media at the Imphal International Airport, Sitaraman Yechury said, “We demand from both the Indian government and the Manipur government to bring a solution to the ongoing crisis in Manipur. The CPI will extend all possible help to restore peace and normalcy in the state.”

The CPI leader expressed disappointment over the perceived lack of action from the central leadership. He said, “We are quite dissatisfied that neither Prime Minister Narendra Modi nor Union Home Minister Amit Shah have presented concrete plans to bring peace to Manipur. The so-called ‘double engine’ government has failed to establish peace in the state.”
Regarding controversy over illegal immigrants from Myanmar in Manipur, Sitaraman Yechury said, “What is the considered opinion of the Government of India?, We do not know”. He opined that the government should have a scientific and strict basis of identifying those who are legal and illegal in Manipur.
