Hand grenade found in Imphal Municipal Corporation

A packet in a carry bag handed over to the mayor of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) through his peon on Monday contained a hand grenade.

As told by mayor L Lokeshwor Singh, his peon handed him a gift packet saying that some unknown persons handed it to him to hand it over to him (mayor). When the bag was opened, he found a packet in it. On suspicion the mayor told his peon to examine what was inside the packet. The peon found a hand grenade inside the packet.

Except the hand grenade, no other thing was in the packet.

The mayor then told reporters that  he did not receive any threat or monetary demand letter from any armed groups or individuals. So he has no clue who might be behind the incident.

A case was registered to investigate the incident, a police source said.
