A live hand grenade was found inside a transit camp of Assam Rifles in Imphal on Friday morning where suspected insurgents had exploded a bomb two days ago, injuring an AR personnel.

The live hand grenade was found lying near a water reservoir on the southern side of the main entrance gate of the transit camp located near Minuthong, Imphal.

Personnel of the Assam Rifles at the camp discovered the grenade in the morning, around 8 am.
On being informed, police from Imphal West district including top officials rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation. They also blocked the road passing in front of the transit camp for a few hours, until personnel of the state police bomb detection and disposal squad defused the same.

The hand grenade was later disposed of later at a safer place, the police said.

The recovery of the live hand grenade inside the transit camp on Friday occurred barely two days after a hand grenade suspected to have been lobbed by insurgents went off at the main entrance gate of the same transit camp (on the night of March 10).

A personnel of the 43 Assam Rifles on sentry duty at the main gate had sustained injuries in the March 10 blast. He is currently being treated at Leimakhong Army hospital.
