CHANDEL: The Health Department, Chandel, and District Hospital Chandel bid a heartfelt farewell to Dr Joyson Mathew Monsang, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Chandel, on the completion of his tenure, acknowledging his over two decades of dedicated service to the district’s healthcare sector.
The Health Department organised a farewell programme on August 28, while District Hospital Chandel hosted another farewell programme on August 31. The programmes included a prayer service and tributes from doctors, medical staff and health department officials.
A native of Liwa Khullen village, Dr Monsang served in the health sector from 2002 till August 31, 2026, holding various responsibilities during his career. He served as Medical Officer at PHC Machi, District Hospital Chandel and 8 MR Leikun.
He subsequently served as Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Chandel, from August 5, 2019 to March 17, 2024, before assuming charge as CMO Chandel on March 18, 2024. He continued as CMO until his superannuation/completion of tenure on August 31, 2026.
The district health sector recorded several significant achievements during Dr Monsang’s tenure. Among the major milestones was the National LaQshya Certification of the Labour Room and Maternal OT, reflecting the strengthening of quality standards in maternal and newborn healthcare.
District Hospital Chandel, PHCs and nine Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) also received Kayakalp Awards, recognising efforts towards cleanliness, hygiene, infection control and improved healthcare practices.
Chandel was also recognised as one of the best-performing districts under the 100 Days TB Campaign, highlighting the district’s performance in tuberculosis detection, treatment and community-level intervention.
Further strengthening quality healthcare delivery, one PHC and three AAM Centres received State-level NQAS certification.

The department also received an award for achieving saturation of five identified indicators under Sampoornata Abhiyan 1.0, marking another significant achievement in the district’s public health and development efforts.
Colleagues recalled Dr Monsang’s tenure with appreciation, describing his leadership, guidance and support as an important part of the department’s progress. Members of the medical team said working with him had been a valuable learning experience.
“On behalf of the entire medical team, we bid a heartfelt farewell with a humble prayer service to our dear CMO Sir, Dr Joyson Mathew Monsang. Thank you Sir for your dedication, support and guidance. Working with you has been a learning experience,” the medical team said.
As Dr Monsang concluded his tenure as CMO, colleagues and staff extended their gratitude for his years of service and wished him good health, happiness and continued success in all his future endeavours.
