CHURACHANDPUR: A sudden and intense downpour lashed Churachandpur district on Thursday evening, triggering widespread flooding across several parts of the town. Despite being described as one of the heaviest spells of rain witnessed in recent years, no fatalities had been reported at the time of filing this report.
The heavy rainfall, which began around 4 pm and lasted for more than an hour, inundated low-lying areas and caused streams and rivulets to overflow. Families living along the banks of these water bodies were among the worst affected, with several households forced to evacuate as floodwaters entered their homes.
The flooding also resulted in significant property damage, with residents reporting losses of household belongings and other valuables.

Among the localities affected were Lower Mission Veng, Zeliang, D. Phailian, Compound Veng, Lailam Veng and New Lamka, where roads and residential areas were submerged following the sudden downpour.
Authorities were assessing the extent of the damage, while residents continued efforts to clear floodwaters and salvage their belongings. Further details are awaited.
