Imphal: At least 7 people were reportedly injured in heavy exchange of fire between Kuki armed groups and Meitei armed groups in the adjoining areas of Churachandpur District and Bishnupur Distirct on Thursday. No casualty have been reported till the filing of this report.
The heavy exchange of fire in the periphery of the Imphal valley has been spiraling since the fresh violence erupted on Tuesday that left a total of 9 injured, claiming two lives. Suspected Kuki militants had allegedly open fired at farmers who were working in paddy fields in Naranseina Maning Loubuk, a Meitei village on Tuesday morning.

Thursday’s heavy firing, including use of mortars from both sides has been reported since 5 am this morning in multiple valley and hill adjoining areas such as Thamnapokpi of Bishnupur District and between Kangathei of Kom Village between Kuki armed groups and Meitei armed groups.
Sources informed that around 7 people have been injured on the spot. Ukhrul Times has not been able to independently identify the injured till the filing of this report. However, there is no report of injured from Manipur Police.

Following the fresh flare up, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) has called for an emergency shutdown.
According to ITLF, “Lonphai, Khousabung, Kangvai and Sugnu areas are under attack by Meitei Militants.”
ITLF has called for Emergency Shutdown with immediate effect in Lamka district. “Emergency services like medical, police, water electricity, press are exempted,” said the Media & Publicity Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) on Thursday afternoon.
