UKHRUL: Hmar Inpui has withdrawn from the Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), saying the KZC has failed to remain an inclusive political platform for all Zohnathlak tribes in Manipur.
The decision was communicated to KZC president Henlianthang Thanglet in a letter dated July 1. Hmar Inpui said its withdrawal was based on a resolution adopted during its 15th Assembly held on April 16 after months of internal deliberations.
The Hmar Inpui said it joined the KZC with the hope that it would unite the Zohnathlak tribes under a common political platform. However, it said the KZC had gradually moved away from that vision.

“Hmar Inpui has come to the considered view that KZC has not adequately upheld the principle of inclusivity among all Zohnathlak tribes,” the letter stated.
It said the KZC had also failed to evolve into the collective political platform originally envisioned when it was formed.
Despite ending its association with the KZC, Hmar Inpui said it remains open to engaging with other stakeholders to explore a broader and more inclusive political platform for the future.
The Hmar Inpui also thanked KZC members and leaders for their association over the years and wished the KZC well in its future endeavours.
