SHILLONG: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) is yet to take a decision on contesting the upcoming Shillong Lok Sabha by-election, party leader and cabinet minister Methodius Dkhar said.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Dkhar said, “As a party, we have not sat and discussed this related matter. I will only be able to tell you when we sit for a meeting and discuss in the party. Then I will be able to tell you our opinion on whether we will contest or not contest the upcoming Shillong by-election.”

The by-election was necessitated following the demise of VPP MP Ricky AJ Syngkon on February 19, 2026.

Dkhar emphasized that the party has not yet convened a meeting to discuss the issue.

“I will not be able to comment on this, but sooner or later we will sit for a meeting and we will let you know,” he added.

Dkhar maintained, “Since I am in the party, I should not tell my personal opinion. I will abide by what my party decides, as a collective decision is more important than my personal view or personal opinion.”
