IED found planted at fish seller’s house in Manipur

Sharma found the polythene bag when he came out for morning walk and on suspicion he immediately informed the Irilbung police station.

Imphal: Suspected militants threatened a fish seller by planting a powerful IED at the gate of his house at Khongman Zone-1 under Irilbung police station of Imphal East district on Monday.


Police said that the timer IED fitted in a tiffin and put in a polythene bag was found by the fish seller identified as one Aribam Sashikumar Sharma in the morning, around 5.30 am. 

The police who rushed to the spot on being informed called out personnel of the Manipur Police Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad who defused the same and disposed of it safely.

A timer was also found in the tiffin containing the explosive materials, the police said.

As seen on the CCTV camera installed at the gate of the fish seller, an unidentified person dropped a plastic packet at the gate early today morning, around 4.25 am.

According to police, Sharma found the polythene bag when he came out for morning walk and on suspicion he immediately informed the Irilbung police station.

Besides running a shop dealing with fresh fish and eggs, Sharma is also joint secretary of Manipur Fish and Egg Traders’ Association.

The fish seller suspected the bomb threat was related to monetary demand by a militant group.
