UKHRUL: A heavy exchange of gunfire between Kuki and Naga groups was reported at Sinakeithei Tangkhul village around 11 AM today in Ukhrul District. So far, there have been no reports of casualties.
According to the Sinakeithei village authority, at approximately 9:00 AM, Kuki militants were observed taking strategic positions in the paddy fields situated between the foothills of the Lungter Mountain Range and the western shore of the Ihang River.

The Lungter Mountain Range serves as the westernmost boundary of Sinakeithei Village, where the Kuki militants have established a series of bunkers and outposts. This has occurred during the ongoing Kuki-Naga conflict, which has surpassed the jurisdiction of Sinakeithei Village, the authority said.
The gunfire began when residents and volunteers attempted to resist the advancing Kuki militants, who were equipped with automatic rifles. The militants crossed the Ihang River and approached within just 300 meters of Sinakeithei’s outermost vigilance bunker.

“What began as a routine exchange of gunfire by the Kukis, which has become a distressing norm in this area, escalated into a sustained barrage of shots, with intermittent firing continuing until 3:00 PM. Although the heavy firing subsided by late afternoon, the atmosphere among the Sinakeithei residents remains tense. The proximity and intensity of the Kuki militia’s assault today represent a significant escalation in the ongoing hostilities. Local authorities are currently assessing the situation for any casualties or damages, as the village remains on high alert,” the authority stated.
In light of the prevailing situation, the village authority has issued a public safety order. This order prohibits civilians from using the Leplen-Tingbipung road via Sinakeithei and the Sinakeithei Tanrui until further notice. Civilians are also strictly prohibited from crossing into Sinakeithei’s jurisdiction. Anyone who disregards this order does so at their own risk, the order warns.
