Imphal: Indian Medical Association (IMA), Manipur State Branch, on Friday expressed deep concern about the ongoing protest by All Manipur Health Services Doctors’ Association (AMHSDA).

“The misunderstanding between the AMHSDA and the state government will affect healthcare of the general public if protracted”, a statement of the IMA said.

The association then urged the agitating AMHSDA and the state government to come to an amicable solution, to alleviate the plight of the public, at the earliest.

The doctors’ protest commenced from the first week of November last under the aegis of the AMHSDA, pressing the state government to fulfill their demands, which included, among others, a time-bound promotion and an extension of the superannuation age of doctors to 65 years among others.

After a series of sit-in-protest for quite some time, the doctors have been staging relay hunger strikes since November 26.
