Imphal: Indian Medical Association (IMA) Manipur State Branch, while strongly condemning the bomb attack at the residence of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS)’s director Ahanthem Shanta, demanded the arrest of the culprit(s) at the earliest.
On July 18 night, suspected militants triggered a bomb at the residence of the RIMS director. No casualty was reported in the blast that occurred at a pond near the house of the director at Uripok Ahanthem Leikai under Imphal police station in Imphal West district.
“Such mindless hurling of bombs in crowded residential area is an act of cowardice and irresponsible,” the association stated. It urged the state government to arrest such miscreants at the earliest.
Meanwhile, sit-in-protests were staged today at the locality of the director and at RIMS hospital complex against the bomb attack at the residence of RIMS director.

In the protest staged at RIMS hospital campus, medical superintendent, dean (academic), heads of departments, chief nursing officer, officials, members of Patient Welfare Committee, Teachers’ and Medical Officers’ Association (TAMOA), RIMS Nurses Association (RNAL), KAMPLAGL, PG, Non-Teaching Employees Welfare Association (NTEWA), staff and students of the RIMS participated.
While strongly condemning the bomb attack, president, Non-Teaching Employees Welfare Association of RIMS, Dr W Ranizir, Singh expressed strong denouncement to the bomb attack and appealed to all not to indulge in such heinous crime in the future.
Locals of the Uripok Ahanthem Leikai also staged a sit-in-protest at a community hall of the locality under the aegis of Uripok Ahanthem Leikai Development organization (UALDO). While strongly condemning the blast at the thickly populated area, the protesters urged not to repeat it in the future
