Imphal: ‘Hand over dead bodies of missing persons’ says Thawai Meerel

Imphal: An organisation based in Imphal today demanded the handing over of dead bodies of missing persons belonging to the Meitei community in the violence.

Over 32 people were missing since the outbreak of the violence (since May 3) and they were suspected to have been killed by mobs or miscreants.

Addressing reporters in Imphal today, leaders of the Thawai Meerel threatened to launch agitations if the state government fails to implement the demand within a stipulated time.

According to Ukhrul Times sources, the mortal remains of four Meiteis — two from Bishnupur District and one each from Imphal East and Imphal West — including that of a woman kept at Churachandpur District Hospital were airlifted to Imphal on Thursday. Two of the bodies were then transferred to Bishnupur District and one each to RIMS and JNIMS morgues in Imphal.
