UKHRUL: The Indian Army under the Spear Corps inaugurated a Community Technology Learning (CTL) Lab and an upgraded football ground at Yaingangpokpi in Imphal East district on Tuesday as part of its community outreach and youth empowerment initiatives under Operation Sadbhavana.
The initiative, under Operation Sadbhavana, aimed at supporting community development, empowering youth and fostering greater interaction and goodwill between the armed forces and local communities. It also aimed at expanding opportunities for digital education, skill development and sports among local youth while strengthening engagement between the Army and the community.

Devleena Basu, Chairperson, Family Welfare Organisation, Red Shield Division, attended the inauguration ceremony as the chief guest. Around 300 people, including community leaders, village representatives, students, youth and local residents, participated in the programme.
The newly established CTL Lab is intended to provide students and young people with access to computers and digital learning resources, helping improve digital literacy and facilitate access to educational opportunities.
The upgraded football ground is expected to provide local youth with improved facilities for sports and physical activities. The facility is aimed at encouraging participation in football while promoting fitness, teamwork and discipline among young people, the Army said.
The inauguration was followed by a cultural programme presented by students of Classes IX to XI. The students showcased their talents through a series of cultural performances, drawing appreciation from the gathering. The chief guest later felicitated the participating students in recognition of their enthusiastic participation and performances.

The programme also provided an opportunity for interaction between Army personnel and members of the local community. Community leaders, villagers and youth took part in the proceedings, reflecting the community’s interest in initiatives focused on education, sports and youth development. The Army said the facilities are expected to benefit youth in Yaingangpokpi and adjoining areas by providing better avenues for digital learning, education, sports and constructive engagement.
Speaking during the programme, the Yaingangpokpi Youth Club expressed gratitude to the Indian Army for undertaking the initiative for the welfare of the local community. The club also stated that the project reflected the goodwill and strong bonding between the Army and the people.
