Imphal East, October 25: The Sawombung IDP Camp in Imphal East came alive with colour and warmth on Friday as the Indian Army joined displaced families to celebrate Ningol Chakouba, one of Manipur’s most cherished festivals.
The celebration, marked by laughter, shared meals, and emotional exchanges, was aimed at bringing a sense of normalcy and belonging to families who have been living away from their homes.
The General Officer Commanding of the 57 Mountain Division attended the event and was received by members of the camp committee. In his brief address, he praised the courage and resilience of the residents, assuring them of the Army’s continued support and commitment to their welfare.
Soldiers and families participated together in the traditional rituals and later shared a community feast that reflected the essence of Ningol Chakouba — strengthening family bonds and community ties.

For many in the camp, the celebration offered a rare moment of joy and togetherness. “It felt like being home again,” said one of the women at the camp, smiling as she served traditional dishes to the guests.
The Indian Army said the initiative was part of its continued efforts to stand by the people and promote peace and understanding across the state.
