Agartala, Jun 8: Following the clash that resulted in property damage and journalist harassment, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) broke its silence on Sunday with direct accusations against government ally TIPRA Motha over Friday’s violent confrontation that took place at the Pancharatna ADC Village under Gonda Twisa (formerly known as Gandacherra) Sub-division of Dhalai district in Tripura.
The IPFT leadership held a press conference at their Sub-divisional party office today, with former president Prem Sadhan Tripura accusing coalition partner TIPRA Motha of orchestrating the incident in Panchratna ADC Village. He characterized the confrontation as a “deliberately planned” attack.
Former president Sadhan Tripura stated that in a democratic country, people have the right to choose their preferred political party without interference. He alleged that this democratic principle was being violated in the Pakhi Para area and accused TIPRA Motha of preventing people from exercising their political choices.
The confrontation over MGNREGA work resulted in damage to shops, houses, vehicles and motorcycles. A journalist was harassed during the incident. Both parties have filed complaints and counter-complaints with Gandacherra Police Station.

It is learned that local police have enhanced security around IPFT Sub-divisional president Charanbasi Tripura’s residence following the incident. The administration has implemented measures to prevent further escalation and maintain peace in the area.
According to political sources, IPFT has made multiple attempts to resolve the matter through internal discussions, but TIPRA Motha has declined to participate in dialogue.
Meanwhile, former legislator and current TIPRA Motha Sub-divisional president Dhananjay Tripura visited the attacked journalist on Sunday evening to inquire about their condition and assured that his party would engage in discussions once the journalist returns home.
Tensions remain high in Pancharatna ADC Village with police maintaining efforts to control the situation. Local intellectuals have expressed concern that without serious intervention from state-level leadership of both parties, such incidents could spread to other areas.
