JAC calls 48-hr Manipur Bandh from January 20, 5 AM

The JAC against brutal killing of Takhellambam Manoranajan has called 48-hour Manipur Statewide bandh with effect from 5 am of January 20 till 5 am of January 22.

Medical emergencies, religious activities and essential services are exempted. The bandh was called following government’s failure to fulfil their demands.

T. Manoranjqn from Thiyam Konjin Samanjing Leikai, Imphal East District who used to work as a school van driver became a village volunteer in the wake of Manipur Violence which erupted on May 3 last year. He was killed by suspected armed Kuki groups at Kangchup hills, adjoining Imphal West and Kangpokpi Districts on January 18 early morning.

It maybe mentioned that the JAC on Thursday submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister with an ultimatum of 24 hours to fulfil their demands which included transfer of Unified Command Chairmanship to Manipur Chief Minister, abrogation of Suspension of Operation (SoO) agreement with Kuki militants, dissolution of state government of it can’t resolve Manipur crisis, removal of inefficient central forces, empowering of state forces, immediate implementation of NRC in Manipur, No Divide and Rule Policy by Centre etc.
