JAC sets 24-hour deadline to arrest culprit(s) of death of Akoijam Nongamba

Imphal: A local joint action committee (JAC) formed in connection with the death of a man on Monday set a 24-hour deadline to the government to book the culprit(s).

Akoijam Nongamba (41), son of late Pilot AK Langam of Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai in Imphal West district was found dead at a hilly terrace at Changaoubung village, three kilometer from Kangpokpi police station of Kangpokpi district on Sunday, around 2.30 pm.

He went missing after going with a girl in a car to a place for a project work on Saturday (February 11).

The police recovered the dead body and transferred it to RIMS morgue in Imphal for necessary legal procedures before handing it over to the family.

The police also registered a case and initiated an investigation. As a part of investigation, the police recorded the statement of the girl and some others.

The police tracing the whereabouts of the man recovered the dead body on Sunday afternoon from near Changaoubung village.

Meanwhile, locals of Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai area where the deceased hailed from today formed a joint action committee and set a 24-hour deadline to the government to book the culprit(s) involved in the alleged murder case.

The JAC alleged that it was a murder case and the police should interrogate the girl to find the clue leading to the death of Nongamba.

The dead body will not be accepted unless the culprit(s) is booked, the JAC warned.

While taking the decision, a public meeting held today, the JAC also warned of launching various forms of agitation if the state government fails to address the demands.
