Japhou Bazar Authority Clarifies Regarding Arrested Individuals

CHANDEL: While appreciating the tireless efforts and dedication of the Manipur Police in maintaining law and order across the state, the Japhou Bazar Authority has issued a clarification with regards to the four individuals from Chandel arrested at Pallel last week.

This is in regards to the recent update by the Manipur Police on January 17, 2026, regarding the arrest of four individuals – Darshung (24), St. Koko (27), Kophamhring (23), and Hp Mono (30) – at Pallel Maning Leikei. “We wish to issue the following clarification regarding their residential status,” the JBA said in a statement.

The JBA stated that while they support the enforcement of the law, they wish to point out a factual error in the official report which identifies the four arrested individuals as “Residents of Japhou Bazar, Chandel district.”

“We categorically state that not all the four individuals are the residents of Japhou Bazar. The official statement is incorrect and we believe this discrepancy may have arisen due to lack of verified residential documentation at the time of the arrest,” the JBA stated.

In the interest of accuracy and denizens of Japhou Bazar, the Japhou bazar Authority was compelled to issue the formal correction regarding the residential details of the four arrested individuals, it added.

The JBA then clarified and stated that that Darshung (24) was KI. Kaunsha from Chamdil/Chandel Christian village, that Kophamhring (23) was Ht. Kophahring from Chamdil/Chandel Christian village, Hp Mono (30) was Ws. Charming from Japhou Bazar and St. Koko (27) was St. Hmantha from Duthang village.
