JNC Khliehriat Confronts Highway Contractor Over Dust Pollution

The Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) Khliehriat Circle has taken proactive measures by engaging with the site engineer from Purbanchal Buildtech Pvt. Ltd., responsible for the ongoing National Highway construction in the Khliehriat region of East Jaiñtia Hills. 

The leaders of the JNC Khliehriat Circle expressed that this meeting was necessitated by rising concerns regarding the significant dust pollution caused by the construction activities, which is adversely affecting commuters, students, and local residents. 

Previously, the JNC had submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, urging the relevant department to ensure regular watering of the road during construction to alleviate the dust issue. Following this, an order was reportedly issued to the contractors to implement dust control measures. However, it was discovered that the contractor had not adhered to the Deputy Commissioner’s instructions.

In light of this, the JNC convened with the site engineer to demand prompt action. During their discussion, they highlighted the detrimental effects of dust on public health and daily life, insisting that their requests be addressed without delay. 

After the meeting, the engineer verbally committed to watering the road twice daily moving forward. 

The JNC stated, ‘We will closely monitor the situation to ensure compliance, as the health and well-being of our people must be a priority.’ The Council has also warned that it will escalate the issue if necessary actions are not taken.
