Imphal, August 1: Johny Meitei Sagolsem has been appointed as the State Head of Manipur for the Academia Domain of the All India Professional Congress (AIPC), a role expected to influence the academic and research landscape of the state significantly.
Sagolsem has been actively associated with the Indian National Congress from a young age and has held several leadership positions, including Working President of the State Youth Congress and head of various frontal organisations. He is currently serving as Secretary of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, a role he has held since April 2022. He has also represented the party in numerous television discussions, addressing critical issues affecting the state.
In 2019, during the 17th Lok Sabha Election, Sagolsem was appointed Assistant Election Returning Officer (ERO) for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency (ST). He also served as a member of the monitoring team for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency and was involved in the vote counting process.
Alongside his political commitments, Sagolsem is deeply engaged in the education sector. He currently teaches Psychology and Education as a guest faculty member at the Ideal Teachers’ Training Academy in Sajiwa, Imphal East, where he guides B.Ed. trainees. He is also an affiliate member of the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG), South Korea, and has actively worked to promote peace education through various local initiatives.

His social service experience includes serving as General Secretary of the United Reformation and Advancement Society, Manipur, an NGO focused on uplifting underprivileged communities by empowering youth, women, and small-scale workers. As a founder member of the Intellectual and Egalitarian Society of Manipur (IESOM), he has contributed to the vision of an egalitarian society through altruistic and community-based initiatives. Additionally, he has worked as a counsellor with the Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC) under the Leprosy Patients Welfare Society (LEWS), Manipur, providing care and support to individuals living with HIV.
His appointment as State Head of AIPC Academia is viewed as a significant step in bridging political engagement with academic progress in the region.
