UKHRUL: A joint team of security forces conducted a search operation in the forested area between Makokchung Bridge and Tusam Village in Kangpokpi district on Monday, recovering a large cache of arms, ammunition and explosives believed to have been concealed by unidentified miscreants.
The operation was carried out from 5.30 am to 9.30 am by personnel of the Manipur Police, the 16 Assam Rifles, 28 Assam Rifles and B Company of the 133 CRPF. The operation was led by Lunthang Vaiphei, MPS, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Saparmeina, with assistance from the Officer-in-Charge of Saikul Police Station, under the overall supervision of Rahul Gupta, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Kangpokpi.
During the search, the joint team recovered 31 firearms, locally made “Pompi” guns, bombs and a quantity of ammunition. Among the seized weapons were one M-16 rifle, one .303 rifle and six pistols. The recovered arms and ammunition were allegedly hidden in the area by suspected unidentified miscreants.
All seized items have been handed over to Saikul Police Station for necessary legal formalities and further investigation.
