Justice BR Gavai Calls for Peace in Manipur, Inaugurates Legal Aid Clinics

Imphal, Mar 23: “Everybody wants peace to return, and nobody is interested in continuing the present situation. Everyone wants normalcy,” said Justice BR Gavai, while speaking at the 12th-anniversary celebration of the Manipur High Court today.

Justice Gavai, who is leading a delegation of Supreme Court judges on their visit to Manipur, interacted with internally displaced persons (IDPs) and stakeholders from both the Meetei and Kuki-Zo communities, who have been affected by the ongoing conflict for almost two years.

At the event, Justice Gavai expressed hope that peace would return to the state through the collective efforts of the executive, the legislature, and the judiciary, working together through constitutional measures.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, who also attended the event, expressed optimism for the swift progress of the peace process in Manipur, which has been plagued by unrest for nearly two years.

The event was also attended by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, other Supreme Court judges, the Chief Justice of Manipur, and other judicial officers.

During the ceremony, the Secretariat of the Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur was officially inaugurated.

Justice BR Gavai, who is also the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), inaugurated legal services and medical camps across all districts of Manipur on Saturday.

He also launched new legal aid clinics in Imphal East, Imphal West, and Ukhrul districts.
