Churachandpur, Mar 22: Amid the ongoing crisis in Churachandpur, a Supreme Court delegation, led by Justice B.R. Gavai, visited the town to understand the plight of displaced families. The visit, marked by legal aid initiatives and relief efforts, aimed at offering support to those who lost their homes and livelihoods due to the recent violence.

The delegation included Justice Vikram Nath and Justice M.M. Sundresh, accompanied by Chief Secretary Prasant Kumar Singh, High Court of Manipur Chief Justice D. Krishna Kumar, Judge Golmei Gaiphulshillu, and DGP Rajiv Singh. Upon arrival, they inspected the conditions at Sadbhavna Mandap Relief Camp in Tuibong, where they interacted with internally displaced persons (IDPs) and distributed essential relief materials. Deputy Commissioner Dharun Kumar S and Superintendent of Police Prakhar Pandey were also present during the visit.

Later, the delegation held a meeting at the Multi-Purpose Hall in Tuibong, where Justice B.R. These programs aim to provide IDPs with access to healthcare, pensions, employment schemes, and reconstruction of identity documents.

Addressing the gathering, Justice B.R. Gavai emphasized the judiciary’s commitment to protecting the rights of vulnerable communities. He also appreciated the coordinated efforts of government departments and volunteers in organizing relief initiatives. Medical professionals conducted health check-ups and distributed free medicines at the relief camp. Additionally, 41 newly enrolled advocates received SANAD certificates, while students in the camps were provided with educational supplies.

To ensure comprehensive support for displaced families, various government departments—including the District Administration, Justice Gita Mittal Residential Skill Training Programme, District Industries Centre (DIC), Zonal Educational Officer (ZEO), District Agriculture Officer (DAO), Chief Medical Officer (CMO), and Horticulture & Soil Conservation—distributed food, agricultural resources, and skill development kits.

The visit concluded with a vote of thanks by the District and Sessions Judge of Churachandpur before the delegation proceeded to Bishnupur District. The Supreme Court’s intervention highlights the importance of combining legal support with humanitarian aid to assist communities in distress.
