Kangpokpi killing: Manipur CM announces Rs 5 lakh as ex-gratia, assures inquiry

Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Monday has announced Rs 5 lakh as an ex-gratia to the family members of the teenager who was killed by some unidentified armed persons in Kangpokpj district.

While extending his condolences, the chief minister has also assured to conduct inquiries into the crime case, besides considering to provide a job to the eligible family member.

The decision was taken after a Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the murder case had called on CM Biren Singh at his official residence in Imphal.

Taking to Twitter, chief minister N Biren Singh said “The JAC in connection with the death of Seigunlal Misao called on me at my official residence today. The state government will provide an ex-gratia of ₹5 Lakhs and conduct necessary inquiries into the case.”

He further said that the government will also consider to provide a job to the eligible next of the kin.

On Saturday night, some unidentified miscreants who came by a two-wheeler shot dead a student appearing in the ongoing Class 12 examination conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Examination Manipur (COHSEM). The incident occurred  near his residence at Sharon Veng, Motbung model village in Kangpokpi district at around 8:30 pm.

The deceased, identified as Seigunlal Misao, 17, was said to be only son and single child of Lenkhothang Misao.

The motive behind his killing is yet to be ascertained till the time of filing this report.
