UKHRUL: The Kuki Human Rights Council (KHRC) on Sunday stated that it supports the resolution passed by the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) on February 12, banning the Meitei community from entering Kuki ancestral lands until a viable political solution is achieved that addresses the long-standing grievances and aspirations of the Kuki people.
“This decisive measure underscores the imperative of safeguarding the Kuki population from further violence, intimidation, and human rights abuses perpetrated by the Meitei community,” KHRC said in a statement.
It stated that the ITLF’s decision was a necessary measure to ensure the safety and security of the Kuki people.

“The Kuki people have long been demanding a separate administration and protection of their rights, which has been consistently ignored by the Indian government,” KHRC stated, adding that it believes that the ITLF’s resolution was a legitimate response to the failure of the government to address the concerns of the Kuki people.
KHRC urged the government to engage in meaningful dialogue with the Kuki leaders and work towards a viable political solution that addresses the aspirations of the Kuki people.

It also appealed to all tribal communities in India to take note of the grave situation in Manipur and lend their unequivocal support to the Kuki people’s right to self-determination, recognizing the historical injustices and systemic marginalization they have faced.
“The KHRC stands in solidarity with the ITLF and the Kuki people in their courageous struggle for justice, equality, and the realization of their inherent rights as indigenous peoples,” it added.
