Kidnapped Man from Kangchup Chiru Village Succumbs to Injuries

Imphal: A man from Kangchup Chiru village, located at the border of Imphal West District and Kangpokpi District, has succumbed to his injuries after being kidnapped and brutally assaulted by unidentified miscreants. The deceased, Ms. Marangir Chiru, 45, was the son of Someng Mechek.

Speaking to the media at RIMS Morgue premises on Tuesday afternoon, his wife, Jatakpon Mechek, stated that her husband left home around 8:30 AM on Monday but did not return. Around 8:30 PM, unidentified persons, after brutally assaulting him, handed him over to the Meira Paibi women of the village. Despite rushing him to the hospital, he died on the way, she said.

Jatakpon Mechek appealed to the relevant authorities for justice and stated they would not claim his body until the perpetrators are apprehended.

Kangchup Chiru Village Chairman Alen Thanga and Meira Paibi leader Anei Jachi condemned the killing of Ms. Marangir Chiru, who was a daily wage earner and father of four children. They warned of intense agitation until justice is delivered and appealed to the government to protect the indigenous Chiru tribe, which has a small population. They also urged other communities not to ridicule or suppress the Chiru community.
