KLA-L Issues Warning Against Kuki-Zo MLAs Joining Popular Government

UKHRUL: The Kuki Liberation Army–Letkholun (KLA-L) has reiterated that no Kuki-Zo Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) has the mandate to participate in the formation of a Popular Government in Manipur under the present circumstances. The statement was issued through a press communiqué released by the outfit, asserting that the position reflects the collective will, political resolve, and aspirations of the Kuki-Zo people.

According to the communiqué, the decision of non-participation is described as a unified and non-negotiable political stance, shaped by what the KLA-L termed as prolonged injustice, sustained persecution, and a complete erosion of trust in the state’s administrative and political framework. Any attempt to bypass or undermine this collective decision, the statement said, would amount to a direct defiance of the people’s will.

The KLA-L further warned that any Kuki-Zo MLA who chooses to participate in the formation of a Popular Government would be considered to have acted against the collective voice of the Kuki-Zo people. Such participation, the communiqué stated, would be regarded as a personal decision taken without the consent, legitimacy, or moral authority of the people concerned. The outfit cautioned that it would initiate what it described as decisive political, organisational, and disciplinary measures against any individual defying the collective mandate.

The communiqué also stated that any untoward developments arising from such participation would rest entirely with the MLAs concerned, who would be required to bear full responsibility for the consequences of their actions. Describing the present moment as one of “historic reckoning,” the KLA-L said the Kuki-Zo people would not tolerate political opportunism, expediency, or personal ambition being placed above collective dignity, justice, and survival.

Reaffirming its position, the KLA-L said it remains committed to defending the political will of the Kuki-Zo people and called upon all representatives to act with conscience, courage, and accountability.
