Kuki-Zo Council Flags Buffer Zone Violation

UKHRUL, NOV 22: The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has voiced concern over an incident on Friday evening near the Torbung–Kangvai buffer zone, where “protesters from the Meitei IDPs community against Sangai Festival” reportedly attempted to move toward Churachandpur despite restrictions in place.

According to the KZC, Central Forces used tear-gas and smoke shells to stop the crowd from advancing onto the highway and breaching the buffer line.

In its statement, the organisation said the episode reflects a pattern of tension along the buffer area and claimed that communities on its side have remained on alert for more than two years.

The KZC reiterated its position that the current administrative setup is no longer workable and repeated its demand for a Union Territory for the Kuki-Zo population. It also restated its commitment to lawful conduct and urged all groups to avoid provocation.
