Senapati, 05 Mar: Lairouching villagers in Senapati district under Maram Police Station celebrate in joy with the arrival of the first drinking water supply in the village that was taken up under NDB Project PHED, Manipur.
Established in 1956 with the National Highway passing through the middle of the village, Lairouching villagers were told that they had never received such facilities earlier.
The inaugural function of the drinking water supply was inaugurated by MLA Losii Dikho as the chief guest and R. Joel Rangnamei, EE, PHED, Senapati aa the guest of honour respectively.

Ng. Joseph, Principal, P. P. Christian Eng High School, Lairouching in his words of appreciation stated that the whole villagers were so happy to behold the coming of water supply to the village in reality that they don’t have enough words to express their joy and gratitude to all concerned. He stated that the village women always used to fetch water from a particular pond for family uses since early morning from a distance of more than 1 km till date. The village leader also stated that Lairouching villagers always used to suffer water borne epidemics every year for the water found in the village was also not of good quality. Scarcity of water prevailed throughout the year every dry season in the past. The inauguration of the drinking water supply in the village could ease the women’s burden to fetch water as well as living standards in the village would surely improve, he ascertained.

Senapati PHED EE, R. Joel said that he came as the host and on behalf of the department. He said that the project started when L. Dikho was the minister of PHED and lauded the villagers for their sincerity in bringing to a successful project on this day. PHED EE also urged the villagers to pay compulsory taxes to the Govt with Rs. 100 per household for every water tap connection where, Rs. 80 will be utilised for maintenance of the project and Rs. 20 to the Govt, adding the tax is to acknowledge what the Govt has given to the public/village. The EE mentioned the need to preserve forests and the environment to get enough water at a place or else, PHED cannot bring water to a place by magic power.
Speaking as the chief guest, MLA Dikho lauded the villagers that they have been blessed in different ways where the village has been surrounded by the Barak River on the east and west also with cultivation so feasible, sunshine from morning till evening, sloppy land without steep region, the national highway passes throughout the village, big army cantonment at the village, another highway starts from Maram and other facilities which he called one of the most beautiful village with lots of scopes. Villagers celebrate the coming of water supply and can expect lots of development in the village in the near future.

The MLA mentioned that the village is a place where travellers love to stop for tea while going to and fro. With God’s abundant blessings in the village, the MLA urged the villagers to plan for a tourist spot in the village and asked them to turn to one of the cleanest villages in the region.
He stated that such projects had been inaugurated at different places where people reeled under water scarcity when he was the minister of PHED.
Different cultural presentations were displayed by the villagers during the program.
