Imphal: Legendary filmmaker Aribam Syam Sharma will release the book-Critics on Indian Cinema on January 6, 2022, Thursday at 7 pm online. The book is published by the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI)- India chapter in collaboration with Federation of Film Societies of India Keralam and Best Books Kolkata. To join the program, FIPRESCI-India invites those interested persons to mail at indiafipresci@gmail.com.

The book is a collection of essays on cinema- mostly critical writing- that tries to take a ‘pluralistic’ approach, in the sense that the essays are not of one kind.  The book edited by M.K. Raghavendra and V.K. Joseph is in three sections. While the first section examines directors and their work, the second looks at aspects of Indian cinema-some chapters about Hindi films and others about regional cinema. The third chapter is devoted to cinema from the North-East; the reason is that this part of India has been culturally marginalized.

Under Section I: Film Directors and their Work, there are five essays; Section II: Understanding Indian Cinema has ten essays; and Section III: Exploring the Cinemas of the North East has five essays. Essays under the North East Section are- The Fortunes of Manipuri Cinema by Meghachandra Kongbam, Assamese Cinematic Narratives: The Changing Landscape by Bharati Bharali, The Cinema of the North-East: Resistance to Stereotyping by Parthajit Barua, Negotiating the ‘Alien’ in Axone and Aamish by Tias Maity and Assamese Cinema: Will the Wave Last by Manoj Barpujari.

The book contains 300 pages and its price is  Rs 600/-.
