Legendary tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain passes away

Ukhrul: Ustad Zakir Hussain, a titan of Indian classical music, passed away on December 15, 2024, leaving an indelible mark on the world of music. Born on March 9, 1951, in Mumbai, he was a prodigy who inherited the rhythmic legacy of his illustrious father Ustad Allah Rakha.

Hussain’s innovative approach to tabla playing transcended boundaries, fusing classical traditions with contemporary influences. His collaborations with musicians like John McLaughlin in the fusion group Shakti brought Indian classical music to a global audience.

Hussain’s untimely demise is an immense loss to the world of music. However, his enduring legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
