Man arrested with Rs 3 crore worth heroin powder in Manipur

Imphal: Police in Manipur’s Bishnupur district arrested a person along with heroin powder worth over Rs 3 crore in the international market, an official source said on Monday.

The arrested person has been identified as MD Munal Khan (42) of Kwakta under Moirang police station of Bishnupur district. He was arrested along with 578 gm of heroin powder packed in 49 soap cases from Kwakta Bazar on Sunday night.

A team of police commandos attached with the district police who were on frisking and checking duty as a part of preventive measure for the upcoming polls in the state arrested the person, Bishnupur superintendent of police (SP), N Herojit told reporters. The arrested person along with the seized contraband item was paraded today before the media at the district police headquarters.

The police officer said that the operation was also a part of the state government’s war on drug mission. The police officer further said that the arrested person along with the seized item will be handed over to Moirang police station for further investigation and legal procedures.
