Manipur: 14 ILP violators hiding in truck deported

Imphal: Police on Tuesday intercepted at least 15 non-locals who allegedly entered Manipur without Inner Line Permit (ILP).

A local court where they were produced by the City police who arrested them along with the driver of the truck ordered to deport them outside the state while imposing Rs 1000 each.

An official source said that the 14 non-locals were intercepted by a team of Imphal City police during a drive against illegal migrants. They were found hiding in a truck parked at Nagamapal area of Imphal today, around 8 am.

On spot verification, the driver identified himself as Harman Singh of Amritsar admitted that the 14 non-locals were occupants of his vehicle and they entered Manipur without obtaining mandatory ILP passes.

They reached Imphal by hiding inside the truck while crossing police and security check posts on the way to Imphal.

The City police detained them and produced before the Imphal West sub-divisional magistrate today later in the day.

The magistrate imposed a total fine of Rs 15,000 to the 15 non-locals including the driver for violating the ILP system and the government order. The magistrate further directed the police to deport them.
