Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Thursday reviewed the “alarming” COVID-19 situation in the state in the wake of rapid increase in the number of infections and death toll.

Apart from ministers and MLAs, the emergency meeting was attended by officials of the departments of state government, representatives of civil society organisations and voluntary organisations working in the frontline to combat the spread of the viral infection.

The meeting held at the chief minister’s secretariat commenced from 11 am and deliberated on the issue after making a presentation on the prevailing grim situation of the disease.

The meeting resolved that the state government should continue to take responsibility for accommodation and providing all necessary equipment for treatment of COVID-19 patients, an official source said.

The chief minister earnestly requested the MLAs, civil society organisations, local clubs, voluntary associations and their representatives to provide support and suggestions to the government departments in imparting awareness to the masses on strict implementation of SOPs and COVID-19 appropriate behaviours, the source added.
