Imphal, December 26: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh inspected the Manipur Police Firing Range at Wairi Pangei in Imphal and the construction of temporary barracks at the site on Thursday.
Speaking during the visit, the Chief Minister stated that approximately 1,946 recruits of the 10th and 11th Indian Reserve Battalions (IRB) recently completed training at an academy in Assam. He noted, “The 10th and 11th IRB were specially raised for highway protection.”

Considering the current situation in the State and the discipline demonstrated by the recruits, the barracks were constructed to station around 800 to 1,000 personnel, the Chief Minister informed. “The new recruits will undergo further special commando training at the temporary barracks. They will form special teams to handle any eventuality concerning the law and order situation in the State,” he added.
He also mentioned that construction and maintenance work is ongoing at the battalion headquarters for the 10th IRB at Nungba and the 11th IRB at Saivom.
Highlighting the importance of fitness and preparedness, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for refresher training for State Police personnel. “Police are considered the backbone of society and the government. They should not be demoralized,” he said.

To address issues faced by the police, the Chief Minister stated, “We need to boost the morale of the police. The government is in the process of procuring full equipment, including helmets, to control mob violence. Certain antisocial elements threaten police personnel while controlling crowds and mobs. Such behaviour demoralizes them.”
He also appealed to the parents and guardians of new recruits to avoid exerting political pressure for transfers and postings. “We should allow the young and fresh recruits to serve their State and Nation according to the government’s transfer and posting policy,” he said.

Speaking on the rehabilitation of displaced families still living in relief camps, the Chief Minister said they will soon be shifted to prefabricated houses under construction at Phubala and other areas.
During the inspection visit, the Chief Minister was accompanied by Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Minister Leishangthem Susindro Meitei, Chief Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi, DC Imphal East Khumanthem Diana Devi, and other officials.
