IMPHAL, AUG 7: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh proposed for the formation of the House Committee in the Manipur Legislative Assembly to examine the influx of the illegal immigrants through Manipur’s border.

He said this while replying to a calling attention motion raised by MLA Leishiyo Keishing during the morning session of the 5th day of the ongoing 6th session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.

He added that the ongoing unrest in Myanmar could be the reason for the influx of immigrants to the state.

He further asserted that the villagers in the border area, if found providing shelter to the immigrants, will be punished as per law. At present, the immigrants are given shelter on a humanitarian ground. The presence of long stretch of unguarded state border with Myanmar has been a threat to the state, he added.

Further, the chief minister replied to the calling attention motion raised by the MLA Surjakumar Okram that a meeting will be held with the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) for the extension of the moratorium from the level of the State.
