NNN | IMPHAL, July 20: Women members of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) protested in Imphal on Monday demanding that the high profile drug seizure case be handed over to the CBI or an independent investigation agency.

Members of Manipur Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (MPMCC) staged the sit-in-protest in front of the Congress Bhavan here.

While demanding the handing over of the case to the CBI or to an independent investigation agency, the protestors also demanded the resignation of N Biren Singh as chief minister on moral ground.

At the protest site, MPMCC president, M Sarma insisted that all individuals who were allegedly in favour of the accused should be arrested and detained under NSA (National Security Act).

Meanwhile, the opposition Congress in Manipur also submitted a memorandum to the state Governor, urging her to remove N Biren Singh as chief minister of the State.

Informing the submission of the memorandum, MPCC spokesperson O Joy Singh said that a copy of the affidavit submitted by additional SP of NAB, Th Brinda to the High Court of Manipur in connection with the drug seizure case was also attached in the memorandum to the Governor.
“Biren should step down as chief minister. If not, the Governor should
remove him as chief minister,” Joy told reporters.

He added that, in the memorandum, the Congress also demanded a CBI probe into the case while explaining that there is no confidence of doing justice in the case under the present government.

Joy said that, as the chief minister, his wife, his close aide and some top officers of the state Police department were alleged of favouring the accused of the drug seizure case, the Governor should intervene.
