Imphal: The Congress party in Manipur slammed the N Biren led BJP government for its” inaction against corruption” while alleging that no action has been initiated even though the party had pointed out misappropriation of funds in the implementation of Central sponsored PMGSY.

After alleging withdrawal of money in terms of crores “without executing road construction work under phases I and II of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) projects in the hill districts of Manipur,” Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has been conducting a series of spot verification of road development works under the scheme.

“Even as irregularities in the implementation of the projects were highlighted through media after spot verification, no action was taken to penalize erring officials of the rural road engineering department, the implementing agency of the PMGSY initiated,” MPCC president K Meghachandra alleged.

Speaking to the media at the MPCC office in Imphal on Saturday, the MPCC president also strongly condemned the RD and PR minister for not responding to a proposal for joint inspection of some road development works in Churachandpur.

“The inaction on the part of the BJP government despite the exposure of the facts regarding the implementation of the scheme is against the chief minister’s repeated assertion that his government is committed to root out corruption”, the MPCC president further alleged.
The Congress leader then said that the government “which is shouting against corruption is now drowned into corruption.”

Meghachandra also said that when a team of MPCC led by him inspected some roads developed under the PMGSY, irregularities in the implementation of the works were detected.
