Imphal: Just after six months into the appointment of N Loken Singh as the president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) by Indian National Congress (INC) in September 2021, N Loken Singh gave in his resignation today taking responsibility of the defeat of Congress in the Assembly Election 2022 in Manipur.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday sacked five state party chiefs in which N Loken Singh was one of them. All five were asked to put their resignation to “facilitate the reorganisation” of the state Congress units.

In his resignation letter submitted to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, N Loken Singh stated that he takes the responsibility of the major defeat of the candidates of INC in the just concluded 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly polls.

“I do hereby submit my resignation tender for President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) of the INC on moral ground with immediate effect”, further adding, “This is for favour of further necessary action from your kind end,” stated the resignation letter.

It may be mentioned that in the 2017 polls, the Congress which was facing three-term anti-incumbency emerged as the single largest party by winning 28 seats while the BJP could corner only 21 out of the 60 assembly seats. In stark contrast, Congress in Manipur Assembly polls 2022 only won 5 seats.
