N Biren Singh to get second term as Manipur Chief Minister

Imphal: N Biren Singh, the current caretaker as Manipur chief minister, according to a news report in NDTV will get second term as per sources in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after series of meetings at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence with oath taking to be held after Holi.

N Biren Singh along with Manipur Pradesh BJP president A Sharda Devi and MLA Th Biswajit Singh had left for New Delhi on Tuesday as invited by the central leaders.

Caretaker N Biren in his meeting with BJP national president J P Nadda on Tuesday had said the new government in Manipur State is likely to be formed after Holi.

The ruling BJP emerged as the single largest party in Manipur, winning as many as 32 seats, a sharp increase of 11 from its 2017 performance in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly polls. All other parties were reduced to single digits.

In the 2017 polls, the Congress which was facing three-term anti-incumbency emerged as the single largest party by winning 28 seats while the BJP could corner only 21 out of the 60 assembly seats.

NDTV report also said that along with N Biren, Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant will also get second term.
