Imphal: Congress party in Manipur proposed dedication of at least one day of the Manipur Assembly session, to be commenced from February 28, for the discussion of the ongoing crisis in the state.
“There should be a one-day special session to discuss the ongoing violence in the state without having any other agenda. If it is so, then it will be very good and we can thoroughly discuss the present violence,” Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra said.

Addressing reporters at Congress Bhavan here this evening, Meghachandra said that it is his party’s suggestion and if the government agrees to the proposal it will be very good for the people of the state.
He said that as the session to be commenced from February 28 which will have only five sittings will not have much time to discuss the violence that has been plaguing the state for the last more than nine months.
He said that the entire session would be dominated by government’s agendas as being the first session of the year, there would be an address by the governor besides government tabling the budget estimates for 2024-25 and discussion for passing it.

The government will also introduce some bills during the session.
However, Congress MLAs are ready to raise questions related to ongoing violence whenever there is an opportunity.
He said that Congress members will take the advances of question-answer hours, short duration discussions etc.
“If we get the chance, the members are ready to take the advantage of tabling private member resolutions”, he added.
Regarding the matter, there were meetings of the Congress Legislator Party (CLP) and the meetings had discussed strategies to raise the present burning issues in the fore of the people.

The MPCC president further urged the government to arrange a live telecast of the session. He said that even though some of the proceedings were telecast in the previous session, it was not done in the last session.
The government should consider continuation of the live telecast of the session as it is very important to inform the people about what is going on in the Assembly.
“The session is very important so far as the present violence is concerned. So, let the people understand what is going on over there in the Assembly session,” he said.
Among others, the press conference was also attended by MPCC vice presidents Tilotama Loitongbam, Hareshwar Goswami and Vidyabati Senjam and office bearers of MPCC.
