IMPHAL: A total shutdown called by a coalition of six banned underground organisations under the Coordination Committee (CorCom) to boycott the President’s visit brought Imphal to a standstill on Thursday.
Educational institutions, markets, and public transport services remained closed, and only a handful of government employees were seen at their offices. The shutdown will continue till Friday, the day the President concludes her visit to Manipur.

This marks the second high-profile visit to Manipur in three months. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited the state on September 13, emphasizing the Centre’s commitment to making “Viksit Bharat” and “Viksit Manipur” a reality.
The Coordination Committee (CorCom), a coalition of six banned underground groups in Manipur, called the total shutdown on December 11 and December 12, coinciding with the likely two-day visit of President Droupadi Murmu.
CorCom condemned the President’s visit, terming it “unacceptable,” and accused the Indian government of carrying out “proxy war and repressive measures” in the state.
The CorCom alleged that the President’s participation in the Nupi Lal day (Women’s War Day) commemoration would be “an attempt to legitimize Indian authority over Manipur.”
