Imphal: In a tragic incident on Saturday at around 12:45 am, a Kuki arms group allegedly unleashed gunfire from Kuki Village towards Meitei Village at Naranseina Village, under the jurisdiction of Moirang police station in Bishnupur District. The exchange of fire escalated when the arms group allegedly fired a bomb, leading to a blast within the outpost of B/128 Bn CRPF stationed at Naranseina.
As a result of the explosion, four CRPF personnel were severely injured by bomb splinters. The injured personnel identified as Insp/Gd Jadav Das, HC/GD Arup Saini, SI/GD N Sarkar, and CT/GD Aftab Hussain, were immediately attended to for medical assistance. It is learnt that SI/GD N Sarkar and HC/GD Arup Saini succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead.
Authorities have launched a combing operation during the time of filing this report.

Manipur is witnessing steady climb of violence again with several reports of such incidents. On April 13, 2024, two armed persons from the Kuki-Zo community were killed in an ensuing gunfight with armed Meitei/Meetei groups in the periphery areas of Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts. This incident occurred at Moirangpurel and Phailengmol villages just ahead of the proposed rally of Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the state.
It may also be mentioned that a bridge in National Highway-2 (Imphal to Dimapur) was damaged in a suspected IED explosion on April 24 at around 12:45 AM. The bridge located in between Kabru Leikhai and Sapermeina suffered moderate damage with three craters on the middle of the bridge with cracks on both end due to the extend of the explosion.
